Borussia Dortmund can ‘expect’ an offer from Manchester United for midfielder İlkay Gündoğan in the future, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Italian newspaper claims that if he impresses over the next couple of months without any repercussions to his injury that has kept him out of action for a year, then the German club can expect a bid from the Premier League giants.
Calcio Mercato cites Manchester United’s failure to sign Kevin Strootman and Arturo Vidal for their interest in the German international.
AS Roma have demanded more than €70 million for Stoorman, whilst Juventus were also demanding a large sum for Vidal over the summer.
However, Arturo Vidal’s injury concerns and indiscipline may open up an opportunity for Louis van Gaal and United to sign the Chilean box-to-box midfielder as early as January.
23-year old Gündoğan has been with Borussia Dortmund since 2011 when he joined from fellow German Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg. After a slow start in the first couple of months with the then-defending champions, the 8-time German international went gone on to become of the most highly-rated central midfielders.
A year on the sidelines following an injury picked up playing in a friendly for Germany versus Paraguay last year cost him his chances of making the World Cup winning squad. Eyes will be on the Dortmund midfielder once he makes his return from injury in the near future…
