Liverpool are all set to secure their seventh signing of the summer after they agreed a loan deal to sign Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid. The Times claim the 20-year-old versatile defender will fly to Liverpool today to undergo a medical before completing his proposed loan move from Atletico.
Primarily a right back, Manquillo can operate on the other flank too. He will join the Merseyside on a two-year-deal with the Anfield giants having the option of making the move permanent for £5m, though the fees will largely be decided based on his performance and number of appearances he make.
Last week, Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre flew to Spain to discuss financial terms with Atletico in signing the highly rated defender. He is now all set to become the seventh signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Divock Origi and Dejav Lovren.
At one point of time, Arsenal were leading the race to sign him, but with the Gunners refused to continue to pursue with their interest having already signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United.
Liverpool are also closing in on signing Sevilla’s highly rated left-back Alberto Moreno, as manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to forge a strong squad that can challenge for honours in both domestic and European fronts.
