Liverpool are close to signing their long-term target, Cristian Tello of Barcelona, according to reports in Spanish media.
The 22-year-old winger has been linked with a move quite a number of times in the past with Liverpool and even he himself revealed he had an offer on table from the Merseyside giants.
Tello signed a long term contract at the Catalan club that saw his release clause bumped up to £22m. He said back then, as we reported here:
“I always wanted to stay here. The coach has confidence in me, I’m happy and ready to play. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving.”
Back in December, Tello revealed that he could be open to move, if he is not getting regular game time at Barcelona. He said:
“I’m young, I want to play and enjoy. If it is not possible at the club, I will consider the outcome at the end of the season.”
Tello has only 10 appearances this season, mostly as a sub, and according to Marca, Liverpool are planning to sign him on loan, with a view to make the deal permanent in the next summer.
The youngster can play on both side of the wings and will definitely be an upgrade on the current group of players Liverpool have, especially Victor Moses.
