Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger faces potentially the toughest season in charge of the Gunners.
In their opening game against Aston Villa, the London side succumbed to a 3-1 defeat with boos ringing around the Emirates stadium. Calls for the manager’s head and chants pleading with the club to sign new players were clearly audible throughout the game.
Ex-Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo, 20, is the Gunners only signing of the summer, after Arsenal missed out on striker Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, forward Bernard to Shakhtar, combative midfielder Luiz Gustavo to Wolfsburg, and Etienne Capoue to Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been a transfer target for the London side this summer, but is said to have resolved his differences with Liverpool and now looks set to stay.
Less than two weeks remain for Arsenal to bolster their side with a number of much-needed recruits, and the fans’ patience is already dwindling.
Arsenal want a striker in the world-class category, while hoping to procure the signature of a top central midfield player. Easier said than done, and so far the Premier League side are being priced out of making approaches for their short-listed targets.
With time running out to bring in the right faces, many feel the club may repeat last season’s antics of panic-buying on the final day of the summer transfer window, and will compromise signing quality players for personnel which will temporarily fill a void for the side.
Emergency defensive reinforcements are desperately needed for Arsenal, as the side have lost a number of players to injury.
By manager Arsene Wenger’s own admission, Arsenal are in negotiations with a number of potential targets, but it’s all too familiar for Arsenal fans who are still waiting for additions to the current squad.
