The most-talked about trio of players this summer have been linked with potential moves away to a number of European sides. However, La Liga side Real Madrid have been increasingly linked to all three.
Wayne Rooney centre, currently of Manchester United, was reported to have requested a transfer at the tail-end of last season – confirmed by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The 27-year old made 27 Premier League appearances last season, scoring 12 goals and making 10 assists.
Tottenham forward Gareth Bale right, 24, has made no word on his future with the London side but Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted the side are trying to procure the Welshman’s signature.
Last season, the PFA Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year made 33 league appearances, scoring 21 goals.
Luis Suarez left, the controversial Liverpool striker, was linked with Madrid once the summer transfer window opened, but Arsenal have also been among the favourites to sign the 26-year old.
He scored 23 goals in 33 Premier League games, and made the Premier League team of the year.
La Liga runners-up Real Madrid are already been splashing the cash in the transfer market this summer – spending £63M on Isco, Asier Illarramendi, Daniel Carvajal, and Casemiro.
However, only £7M is net spend as they sold Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol, Jose Callejon, and Pedro Leon for a combined £56M.
Madrid aren’t beyond the astronomical spending sprees in order to win trophies – spending £225.4M in 2009 on Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo (£80M), AC Milan’s Kaka (£60M), Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso (£31M), Olympique Lyonnais’ Karim Benzema (£30M), Valencia’s Raul Albiol (£13M), Almeria’s Alvaro Negredo (£4.4M), Getafe’s Esteban Granero (£3.5M), and Liverpool’s Alvaro Arbeloa (£3.5M).
Rooney (£30M), Suarez (£50), and Bale (£80M) would cost around £160M in total, but there’s no doubt they are all among the top-10 best players in the Premier League.
Real Madrid are desperate to win back the La Liga title from fierce rivals Barcelona, and to end their 11-year drought of having won a Champions League crown.
Could they splash the cash once more on the Premier League’s top players to achieve a major trophy haul this season?
