Did James Rodriguez score the goal of the World Cup so far last night against Uruguay?
Colombia’s 2-0 win over South American rivals Uruguay was impressive to say the least. Comfortably dealing with the likes of Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani in the defence, Los Cafeteros ploughed forward and scored two great goals via golden boy James Rodriguez; the first of which is being hailed as the Goal of the Tournament, surpassing Tim Cahill’s wonder-volley in the group stage match against Holland!
Struck with venom from the edge of the box, having set himself up with the use of his chest, the 22-year-old’s volley was made all the more magnificent by the fact that it was born from very little, with the game having failed to spark into life up until that point. The shock value of the strike cannot be underestimated, much like with Cahill’s effort, as the former Everton man buried his first time effort just seconds after the Dutch had opened the scoring.
