If the papers are to be believed, Jay Bothroyd could choose to go to Fulham, Birmingham or even Chelsea. He would be best off staying put.
1. It’s not much fun being parachuted into a relegation fight.
Most of the clubs being linked with Jay are strugglers in desperate need of goals. To be thrown into an unfamiliar team and expected to instantly score goals is tough. Fail and you will soon find yourself warming the bench, with your reputation damaged. There’s also the risk that his new side might go down and pass Cardiff on the way up.

2. It’s fun being a club hero.
Dave Jones made an interesting point when he said that he was the first manager in Bothroyd’s career to offer him a new contract. It is the chaotic nature of his journeyman career that has stopped him fulfilling his potential sooner. At Cardiff he has a manager who trusts him and fans who love him. That’s the sort of environment in which he can keep getting better and better.

3. Cardiff are not a small club
Cardiff have a large fanbase that will only grow if they become Wales’ sole representative in the Premier League. They have a great shot at going up and, if financial matters are sorted out, there is no reason they can’t compete in the Premier League.
