We have an update on the situation. Mundo Deportivo‘s London based journalist Imanol Guillen has now claimed that Valdes could head towards the exit from Old Trafford in the next 24 hours.
Guillen reports that Valdes is expected to travel to Turkey on Friday to end his fruitless spell at Manchester. Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph also reported yesterday that Besiktas could wrap up the deal by Friday.
United had signed Valdes in January 2015, offering the Spaniard a 18 month contract. However, the 33-year-old has been frozen out at United by manager Louis van Gaal for allegedly refusing to play for the reserve side’s fixture last season.
This has led to a considerable friction between the pair. There had been fall outs between them at Barcelona but Van Gaal has made it clear that Valdes has no future at Old Trafford. The shot stopper started just one first-team game last season.
Turkish Football however claim there could a twist in the Valdes transfer saga. The Turkish outlet claims that Besiktas have already identified Arsenal’s David Opsina as their backup plan should the move for Valdes fall through.
The reason for this being Valdes having a dead leg (as per another Turkish source Fanatik) and the player is being grappled with a serious disability. As a result Valdes hasn’t been able to train regularly as well.
Despite having Ospina as backup, Besiktas are ready to pay Valdes a net annual salary of €2.1m. But the Turkish side are also aware of the currency rise and do not want to be under burden because of the difference in demands.
Apart from this, from United’s perspective, the situation regarding David De Gea is also unclear. Van Gaal will have some serious thinking to do in the coming week. Valdes however, might not be even in his thought process! Football is shrewd. Yes it is!
