The plummet of Wayne Rooney

Well, well, well. How the mighty has fallen. 8 years after that goal against Arsenal, his career had gone from strength to strength. After bursting onto the scene as a 16 year-old with Everton, he was snapped up by Manchester United for a world record fee of £20m for a teenager plus add-ons depending on appearances and success. Since winning his inaugural piece of silverware at the Millennium Stadium in the form of the League Cup, he has since gone on to win the Premier League 3 times, the UEFA Champions League once, the FIFA Club World Cup once, two Community Shields and yet another League Cup to add to that bulging tally. Along with winning a host of personal accolades, everything seemed to be rosy until onenight at the Allianz Arena. 7 months later during a time where he had endured the worst World Cup of any player in living memory, suffered from countless ankle injuries, an insurmountable loss of form and personal problems regarding his extra-marital affairs, the man nicknamed ”The White Pele” has called the final curtain on his illustrious career with Manchester United.Instead of reminiscing over his wonderful goals and performances on the pitch of the last 8 years, where he has entertained a global audience and provided happiness to the millions of Man United fans around the world, I will discuss how he’s messed it up for himself. Big time.

The plummet of Wayne Rooney
His greatest moment as a professinal player - unlikely to be topped wherever he joins next

Thatnight in Germany, where he volleyed in a second minute goal to put United in the driving seat of the quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich, proved to be his last meaningful contribution in a Manchester United jersey. Some 60 odd minutes later, he landed awkwardly on his ankle. One thing lead to another and not a soul in the world would have predicted what we would be talking about today regarding the PFA player of the year. In between that time, a series of starting events unraveled about his past which would ultimately decide his future.

34 goals was the amount of goals Mr. Rooney had culminated by 7.47 p.m. in Bavaria for the 2009/2010 season and it would stay at that. The injury he sustained in that game would continue to haunt him to the present day. Failing to add to his tally and question marks over his match fitness led to many England fans scapegoating him as one the reasons of their exit. He was pretty shocking in the World Cup and something was gravely wrong with the man. Departing the World Cup with a miserable tally of less goals than Upson, he returned to Manchester a broken man. On 14th August, the first of many telling events of where he future lay, was revealed. After his agent contacting chief executive, David Gill, ir Alex Ferguson was notified of Wayne Rooney’s rejection of signing a new and improved contract. Since the boss failed to convince his star striker of signing the long-term deal, things have gone from bad to worse.

The familiar sight of the disgraced fool during the World Cup

The story of the prostitutes seems to have been the final nail in the coffin for Rooney and now he wants out. The press had a field day abusing him and rightly so. Add that to the photographic proof of him smoking and drinking heavily during the summer plus urinating against an alley wall has done his no favours either with the boss. While his wife was pregnant expecting their first child, Kai, he was off galavanting with a tramy £1,200 a go slut in a top Manchester hotel. As soon as the news broke I wanted him out the club immediately. Sell him I said. My wish might finally be granted. I never took to him as fondly I did like Ronaldo. Reading Wayne’s biography, his background wasn’t exactly squeaky clean either and he has admitted previous mistakes stating he wouldn’t do them again.  He also joined Manchester United because ‘I always knew them as this big club who won loads of pot’. Lie, after lie, after lie. To save you time, I won’t go on listing the remainder of his lies as all I will do is rewrite his entire biography again.

His season so far has been full of extremely poor performances partially thanks to the red-hot and sublime Berbatov showing him how it’s done early on. Playing second fiddle to Berbatov and acting the peripheral figure at Old Trafford this season has meant his contributions have been limited to 3 assists and a solitary goal via a penalty. Hopefully for me anyway, his seasonand career  is ended as far as his affiliation with Manchester United is concerned and he is shipped out in January to the highest bidding club except Manchester City. Real Madrid, take him, he’s yours. Scum is not welcome on the red half of Manchester. This might spark outrage among the United faithful who adore Rooney. But as if disrepecting his young family isn’t enough, he has gone on to spit in the face of the great club and manager who made him into the most prolific young striker at the turn of the decade. Thanks for that Shrek, don’t let the door his your fat arse on the way out.
