Suarez is Liverpool’s best hope for silverware this season

Stats show that Luis Suarez is currently showing the kind of form that can help Liverpool to some silverware this season, with the stocky striker netting a total of 20 goals (for club & country) since the start of the 2010/11 season.

The former Ajax man joined Liverpool in January 2011 from Dutch giants Ajax, and immediately endeared himself to the Anfield faithful courtesy of his all-action style and his ability to both score and create for others. As well as netting five goals in the league for the Reds, his total of 49 shots since joining the Merseysiders was a total only Arsenal’s Robin van Persie (63) could better over the same period.

Suarez’ impressive displays in attack for Liverpool have made him an obvious target of illegal challenges from opposing defenders. Since last January, Suarez has been fouled 43 times in the Premier League, a figure only new team-mate Charlie Adam (44) can better. Indeed, even on the opening day of the 2011/12 season, the Uruguayan was given more rough treatment by Sunderland’s backline, winning six fouls, more than any other player at the weekend.

Despite the fouls, Suarez looks set to light up the new Premier League season, as Kenny Dalglish’s reinvigorated Reds set their sights on a trophy or two.
