Liverpool have successfully dodged all bullets in the form of transfer bids for star striker Luis Suarez in the summer and it seems like the Reds could be in a similar situation again in the January transfer window as well.
This summer, Suarez was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal. The Gunners have had two bids rejected and the saga all took sorts of nasty twists and turns, involving strong statements from Liverpool manager and snide remark from the owner as well. In the end, the Uruguayan was forced to commit his future at the club.
Liverpool didn’t want to sell Suarez to a rival club, but would their stance remain same if Real Madrid puts a handsome offer for the striker on the table?
According to Spanish newspaper Marca who have great contacts within the Spanish club, the Los Blancos have shifted their attention to Suarez, following the purchase of Gareth Bale from Tottenham for a world-record transfer fee.
It has been reported that Carlo Ancelotti is planning a renewed effort to take the Uruguay international to the Bernabeu, and therefore the Reds can expect formal offers on the table in few months time from now.
Suarez is pivotal to Liverpool’s ambition of finishing in top four this season. The Reds have started the season brilliantly, winning all of their three matches, and sitting on top of the table. All that without their talisman forward who is still serving his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season.
It’s hard to predict how things will shape up for Liverpool come January. If they remain in a challenging position for the Champions League spot, they would probably reject every offer for Suarez. But, they might change their decision, if the Reds stutter in the league from here on and Madrid come with offerings galore to prize him away.
