Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a fresh dig at his Arsenal and Liverpool counterparts, Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp.
The Red Devils completed their fourth signing of the summer transfer window as they have added Paul Pogba to their squad. United paid a world-record fee of €105 million to Juventus in order to land the 23-year-old midfielder in the current transfer window.
Wenger and Klopp criticised the price tag associated with Pogba’s move back to Old Trafford. However, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea coach has another view as he believes the north London side and the Merseyside club cannot smash a world-record fee in completing a top transfer.
“I know the discussion, I understand that, sometimes in football, things happen and the club breaks the record, but this is only possible at clubs like Man United,” Mourinho told MUTV.
“When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because, to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world. So at Man United it can happen.”
Mourinho admitted that he likes everything associated with the player and remains confident that he can get the best out of the player over a period of time. In addition to this, the Red Devils manager admitted that Pogba needs protection and he is happy with United’s latest acquisition.
“We need to get the best out of him and this will be a process. So if he needs protection, I am here to protect,” United manager said.
“I know some people think that he arrives here now and, the first time he touches the ball, he scores, but I’m here to protect him and give him the best conditions to be what we think he is going to be, which is a football player for Man United, a reference for this club. I’m so happy.”
