Manchester United were linked with a move for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches on January transfer deadline day. According to multiple reports, United made an offer in the region of €40m (€30m plus a €10m bonus) which was rejected by the Portuguese club.
It seems like United are likely to return with a better offer for the youngster in the summer. Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, who has been involved in several high profile transfers for United over the years, has told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, relayed by Sport Witness, that the Red Devils are willing to pay around €60m for the 18-year-old midfielder.
United’s latest offer is a big jump from their previous offer, but it is still some €20m short of the player’s valuation.
O Jogo believe that a business can be concluded at a lower amount. United are determined to sign the player and are working on reaching an agreement in principle.
United are not afraid of dishing out high transfer fee for young talents, having paid a handsome fee for both Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, but the Red Devils are highly unlikely to pay €60m for an 18-year-old unproven talent.
