Manchester United have sent a transfer delegation to Portugal to run the rule over Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Sportwitness), Manchester United officials attended Saturday’s meeting between Benfica and Vitoria Guimarães.
The 19-year-old winger is highly rated in Portugal and has attracted a lot of interest from several European heavyweights.
The Premier League giants have been monitoring the talented winger for a while now and the Portuguese media seem to think that Manchester United could make a move for him soon.
The poor form of Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Memphis Depay has forced Louis Van Gaal to dip into the market for a goalscoring winger and it seems Guedes is his prime target at the moment.
The 19 year old can operate as a winger or a wide forward and can chip in with goals consistently. Furthermore, Guedes’s flair and intelligence will add much needed unpredictability to United’s attack.
The Old Trafford outfit have struggled to score goals this season and Van Gaal has previously stated that his side are in need of a pacey, goalscoring wide player like Neymar, Bale and Robben.
Although Guedes is not quite at that level yet, the youngster is highly talented and is expected to develop into a world class player in the future.
Despite their poor form over the last month, Manchester United are still in a good position as far as the league table is concerned and signing a player like Guedes could kick-start their season and prevent another crash during the second half.
