Marouane Fellaini didn’t have a rocking start to his Manchester United career. The Belgium international was probably not the first choice midfielder for the club but having failed to land other targets in summer, managed David Moyes went for him on the transfer deadline day, paying a hefty transfer fee of £27.5m to secure his signature from Everton.
The 26-year-old was one of the key players for Moyes at Everton however he has failed to reproduce so far the kind of form he showed with his previous club.
Branding Fellaini as a “flop” would be too harsh but any observer will agree to it that he has done very little to justify his price-tag.
Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has come in support of his fellow Belgian team-mate saying the midfielder deserves sufficient amount of time to have an impact on the team.
“People shouldn’t forget that it is Fellaini’s first season at Manchester United,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.
“It’s a big move and he deserves some time. It will sound weird because he plays for the red half of the city but I want him to get back to his best.
“He’s an important player for Belgium,” he added. “He’s one of those special players. You just feel he can have a big impact on the team. They will need him a lot.”
Well, it is not unnatural that Kompany will say good things about his international team-mate as he would want Fellaini to regain some kind of form ahead of 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Fellaini is currently ruled with a wrist injury and won’t return until February. The Belgian has made eight league appearances so far and has yet to score or provide an assist.
