Van Gaal wants Dutch superstar at Old Trafford in January

Manchester United stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games in the Premier League, after they drew 1-1 against Stoke City on Thursday. Despite the obvious disappointment of not picking up full points against Aston Villa, Stoke City and Spurs, United fans should be happy to see the rapid progress the team has made under Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal will be given another transfer war-chest again to rebuild the squad, but whether he’ll do any signing in January remains to be seen.

Defence is one of the major areas where United should be looking to invest, as series of injuries to key defenders meant the club hardly had a stable organisation at the back throughout the first half of the season. Surprisingly, United have only conceded one more than Chelsea, who boast of having one of the tightest defence in the league.

The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson reports that Manchester United are considering making a move for Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar, but there is yet to be any contact with the midland club regarding the player.

The 29-year-old Dutch defender was pivotal for LVG during the 2014 World Cup campaign and with him out of contract in summer, he represents a cheap transfer, if Van Gaal decided to move for him in January transfer window, that opens on Saturday.

Paul Lambert has already ruled out Vlaar’s exit but the Villa will be conscious that Vlaar could leave for nothing which is financially damaging for a club like them.

Manchester United have also identified Everton’s right wing back Seamus Coleman as a possible transfer target in January.
