Football fans travelling to Liverpool for a match at the iconic Anfield stadium have to pay an average of 74% more than standard rates, a new survey has shown.
According to the survey by Cheaprooms.co.uk, of all 20 Premier League Clubs, Liverpool is where home matches have the biggest impact on local hotel rates.
To determine the impact, the survey analysed room rates in Premier League towns and cities all over the United Kingdom from October to December 2019. The average rates for the most affordable room in hotels located in town and city centres, and rated 3 stars or more, were ascertained. For comparison, the average rates in the same locations on non-match days were also recorded.
In Liverpool, supporters must dig deep into their pockets to pay an average of £121 for a room on match days at Anfield. That’s an increase of more than 70% compared with standard rates on non-match days – the biggest difference documented among all 20 Premier League clubs.
Other destinations that showed notable hotel rate hikes on match days are Wolverhampton (+37%), Leicester (+27%) and Burnley (+24%). In all of these areas, the limited number of hotel options mean that even a small influx of overnight visitors can lead to an increase in hotel rates.
