Liverpool have been given a major boost in the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has asked the board to sell the 29-year old sooner rather than later.
French newspaper Le Parisien has reported the fallout between the manager and Argentine international, saying the pair are in “conflict”.
There was no communication or handshake between the two when Blanc replaced Lavezzi in the 67th minute of Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Bordeaux in the French Cup.
The sale of Lavezzi has proven hard to come by since the summer as clubs are not prepared to match his €4.5 million (£3.4m) yearly salary.
PSG paid €30 million (£22.5m) to Napoli for the Argentine’s services two-and-a-half years ago – owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi may not be prepared to sell his asset as cheap as the €10 million (£7.5m) that has been floating around in recent weeks.
Liverpool have been clicking in recent weeks but Ezequiel Lavezzi would be considered an excellent buy if they were able to land him for £7.5 million.
The Reds have Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana, Lazar Marković and Jordon Ibe as options down the flanks where Lavezzi plays.
PSG’s biggest problem in selling Lavezzi for such a fee would be their lack of options to replace him at a similar price with the Financial Fair Play rules in place.
