According to reports in the Danish media, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has voiced his concerns over his future at the club. Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, the 29 year old Dane revealed that he felt frustrated over manager Brendan Rodgers’ selection.

Premier League Transfer

Agger was relegated to the sidelines in the big matches against Manchester City and Chelsea and claimed that, “It certainly was not fun. But it is not for me to decide. The coach may say that I’m not good enough.”

The Liverpool vice captain started only 16 games for the Reds this season as Rodgers preferred Mamadou Sakho and the established Martin Skrtel for the two centre back slots.

Agger has been a loyal servant for Liverpool over the past 8 years and is the longest serving player in the squad after captain Steven Gerrard.

When asked whether he would be at Merseyside for the next season, Agger revealed, That’s up to the manager. I can’t put myself on the team sheet.” The Dane though was adamant that he won’t be the third choice for the centre back position.

“I will not be third choice, but I’m not thinking about my future. Now my focus is on the next two [international] matches and then I’m looking forward to a long vacation for five weeks. My body and mind both need time to relax.”

We had earlier reported that Spanish giants Barcelona could pursue their interest in Agger while Italian side Napoli are also interested in the left footed centre back. It is believed that former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez, who is currently in charge of the Partenopei is keen to bring Agger in Italy in the summer. Interestingly it was Benitez who had signed Agger from Brondby in 2006 during his successful managerial tenure at Merseyside.
