Done Deal: Liverpool complete €13.3m move for Arsenal target

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers vowed to ‘move on’ after selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona for a reported fee of around £75m. Finding a like-for-like replacement was always going to be difficult, but it seems Liverpool had done their homework beforehand. Targets were quickly identified and attempts were made to get them quickly as Rodgers looks to replenish the void left by the Uruguayan. Liverpool, boosted by their second place finish last season, plus TV revenue and Champions League money, are not afraid to spend big, with Rodgers planning to take the spending spree over £100m.

Loic Remy

Already the club have signed forwards like Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic, and according to latest reports from France, Liverpool have sealed the deal for French striker Loic Remy as well.

The 27-year-old striker, who joined Newcastle United last season on loan from QPR, scored 14 league goals for the Magpies. According to several reports, he was supposed to undergo a medical in Boston (Liverpool travelled to USA for pre-season tour) and meet with his future team-mates.

Both Le 10 Sport and L’Equipe claim that Remy has committed his future with the Anfield club. He has signed a five-year-deal with Liverpool with the Merseyside outfit reportedly paying €13.3m for his signature. Remy was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Spurs as well, but Liverpool jumped in quickly to secure his services at the earliest.

He will become the fifth major signing of the season, following the arrivals of Lambert, Can, Lallana and Markovic. Rodgers is expecting to add few more players to the side, while the possibility of signing a marquee name cannot be ruled out either.
