There have been quite some confusing reports on Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan’s impending summer transfer. The Mirror reported on Saturday that the Argentine winger who has a €35m release clause is set to join Manchester United.
The reported quoted a story from Portuguese media outlet Record stating that Gaitan was scheduled to play his final game for the club in the weekend. Portuguese television channel CM TV also claimed that Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and superagent Jorge Mendes are in England to negotiate a transfer for the 27-year-old.
Gaitan has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and his name popps up every transfer window over the last few years. Italian journalist Tancredi Palermi also states that United have now started to intensify talks with the Benfica star.

Interestingly, Liverpool have also held discussions and are plotting a summer move for Gaitan according to well known journalist Duncan Castles.

This is not all though, we had reported a couple of days ago that newly crowned Premier League Champions Chelsea are also interested in the player who can play in all the three position up front. It is believed that Benfica want to solve their players’ future at the earliest, which means, we might see Gaitan being transferred to either of the big English clubs in the summer.
