The BCCI has announced the IPL 2021 schedule including dates and venues for all 52 Indian Premier League 2021 matches.

The tournament is set to begin on April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru paired with each other in the opener. The IPL final will be played on May 30 in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians were spectacular in the IPL 2020. They claimed their fifth title after beating Delhi Capitals in the final. At least one cricket blog thinks it would not be a surprise if they lifted the trophy again.

Mumbai currently have one of the most balanced sides in the league, boasting outstanding players in both batting and bowling departments. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard all possess great talent and will be expected to play a big role this year.

The Blue Army looked weak in the spin department last time, but they have added veteran spinner Piyush Chawla. They also brought in Jimmy Neesham, who could be a good back-up for Pollard.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR endured a disappointing campaign in the IPL last year. They failed to make it to the playoffs after finishing fifth in the table.

Starting with a fresh mindset, they will be hoping to do a better job in the cricket league in 2021. To achieve this aim, the Eoin Morgan led side have added some good cricketers this year. New arrival Shakib Al Hasan is one of the greatest all-rounders and will greatly strengthen the KKR team.

Andre Russell, who failed to shine last year, will be eager to prove his abilities this season. We all know how destructive the Jamaican can be once he regains his form.

Pat Cummins was considerably effective last season, but the Australian will want to provide even better performances this year. And they also have the services of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, who can be handy prospects at some of the dry venues.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have had two brilliant IPL seasons, with the team even making it to the finals in 2020. Considering their squad, it looks safe to say that they can lift the coveted trophy this year.

Having a core of strong Indian players, DC can also boast some superb overseas names. And to further bolster their squad, they have added Steve Smith and Sam Billings.

Their skipper Shreyas Iyer is in top-notch form, and with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw in their ranks, their batting looks formidable.

However, they could face some pace bowling problems early in the season as Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje won’t be available for the first few weeks.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Surprisingly, a team having AB de Villers and Virat Kohli in its ranks haven’t yet won any trophies. However, this year could be the one when they finally win the coveted prize.

Their skipper Kohli is a match-winner who can single-handedly turn the fate of the game. He has already struck five centuries in the competition and has the distinction of scoring the most runs.

While De Villiers is a versatile player who can excel in any role he is given. The South African can play a variety of spectacular shots and once he gets going, there is no stopping him.

Bangalore have also spent big in the 2021 IPL Auction, bringing in Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson.

RCB kick off their IPL 2021 schedule against MI on 9 April 2021.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings endured a disastrous campaign in the IPL last year as they failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in the 13 editions of the tournament.

However, they will try to bounce back this year. CSK have made some bold decisions as they released six of their players before the season. They have also brought in Krishnappa Gowtham and Moeen Ali by spending hefty sums.

One of the positives for them is the return of Suresh Raina, who missed the last edition due to personal reasons. Raina has been a prolific run-scorer in the tournament, and if CSK is to do well in their IPL 2021 schedule, then the Indian cricketer should provide good performances.

Dwayne Bravo has been contributing heavily to the success of Chennai over the years, but he couldn’t play a big role last year due to injury. He will be hoping to remain fit throughout the campaign and play a big role.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have not been very successful in the IPL. They only made it to the finals in 2014 under the leadership of George Bailey and went on to lose against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Having spent a lot of money in the auction, the Mohali-based side will hope to do something special this year. They have secured the services of Tamil Nadu dasher Shahrukh Khan, while also adding Jhye Richardson and Rile Meredith.

Punjab also have Chris Gayle on their books who can take the game away from opponents in a flash.

Additionally, they have two brilliant openers in the form of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. The duo were superb last year, and they can be expected to replicate that form this season.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals endured a disastrous campaign last year in the IPL, finishing at the bottom of the table. They have spent heavily in the auction, parting with a whopping 16.25 crore to bring in Chris Morris, who has now become the most expensive player in the league’s history.

Ben Stokes struggled to perform in the tournament for the last couple of seasons. However, once he was promoted up the order, the English cricketer regained his form. He notched a century towards the back end of the tournament.

The Royals also have the services of Jofra Archer, whose toe-crushing yorkers can be a nightmare for the batsmen.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL. They claimed the title in 2016 and have subsequently made it to the play-offs every season.

Last year, the Orange Army finished third in the table but lost the Qualifier 2 match against Delhi Capitals to go out of the tournament.

Hyderabad have plenty of quality in their ranks, and their chances cannot be completely disregarded for the title. Their opening pair David Warner and Jonny Bairstow are very aggressive batsmen who can take the match away from the opposition very quickly.
