West Ham United have completed the signing of Barcelona midfielder Alex Song on a season-long deal on Saturday.
The Cameroon international left Arsenal and joined the Catalan club in 2012. However, he failed to make an impact for the La Liga giants and was linked with a return to the Premier League.
The Gunners were interested in securing a deal for the midfielder, while Liverpool were also in the race for Song’s signature. However, the 26-year-old has now decided to join the Hammers on a temporary basis for this season.
“West Ham United are delighted to confirm they have beaten off interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to complete the signing of Barcelona midfielder Alex Song on a season-long loan deal,” a statement read on West Ham’s official website.
“Song, 26, has spent the last two seasons at the Nou Camp following his £15million move from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, playing 39 La Liga matches and winning the title in 2012/13.”
