Arsenal will honour one of their club legends Dennis Bergkamp with a statue outside the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
The Dutchman will see his statue placed forward alongside other three Arsenal legends – Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.
A club spokesman said as quoted by the Daily Mail:
“We currently have statues outside Emirates Stadium commemorating three legends in Arsenal’s history – Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry and we’re delighted that they have been extremely popular with visitors to the stadium.
“We’re pleased that speculation surrounding a future possible statue at Emirates Stadium is generating interest and will obviously communicate details if and when there is confirmation of any new developments.”
An image of the figure has been circulated online that shows a classic Bergkamp pose of him controlling the ball against Newcastle in 2003.
The Dutch maestro joined the Gunners in 1995, signed by then manager Bruce Rioch for £7.5 million from Inter Milan. In his glittering career at the club spanning over 11 years, the former Netherlands striker scored 120 goals in 423 games.
Dennis Bergkamp won three Premier League titles with the Gunners and four FA Cup medals. He has won the PFA Player’s Player of the Year in 1997-98 and earned his place among the English Football Hall of Fame.
Bergkamp, who initially refused any involvement in coaching, completed his coaching diploma courses in 2008 and is currently serving as Frank De Boer’s assistant manager at Ajax.
There have been rumours that Arsenal are thinking to bring their legend back at the club, especially to look after the youth academy. Liam Brady is expected to leave his post of head of the academy at the end of the season and there were some suggestions that Bergkamp could be given that role.
