Chelsea are showing great interest and have stepped up the chase in signing their former player Nemanja Matic, who is also a transfer target of Manchester United.
In November, Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that Manchester United are seriously considering a move for Benfica trio of Nemanja Matic, Niko Gaitan and Ezequiel Garay.
Matic has a contract till 2018 and has a reported €50m release clause in his current contract. He has been one of the best performers for Benfica this season and has attracted interests from Italian giants Napoli as well.
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2009, but after making only three Premier League appearances, he was sold to Benfica in 2011, as a part of the deal that brought defender David Luiz to London. Matic himself said that he is happy at the Portuguese club and he is not looking for any move in January.
According to reports, Chelsea who had shown earlier interest in Matic, are looking to bring the midfielder back at Stamford Bridge. It is understood that the Portuguese club could sell the player for £25m while Matic’s agent had held talks with Chelsea in London last week.
