Chelsea loanee Charly Musonda has voiced his intention to stay in the La Liga and play for big Spanish clubs. The 19-year-old joined Real Betis during the January transfer window, and so far he has done well for the Spanish side.
He made his debut against Valencia, and was adjudged man of the match for his performance. He tasted his first defeat at the top level after six matches unbeaten run with Betis, when his side lost 3-1 to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
The defeat didn’t seem to rattle him, rather he voiced his intentions to stay in the Spanish league in the next season. He said after the match:
“I am happy here. My favourite clubs are in Spain. Since I was little, I’m a fan of Barcelona and Real Madrid. I learned Spanish to be able to come here.”
“I want to stay here. It’s in my head now, but we do not know what could happen next season. The future is uncertain, but it is possible that I stay next season. It’s better that I play here rather than being a back-up at Chelsea”
Betis are comfortably placed at 11th in the La Liga table and are eight points from away from the relegation zone.
The loan move has worked really well for the young Belgian winger. He has helped Betis climb up the table with his offensive contributions on the pitch. And it seems he is enjoying his football and already feels at home with the league.
He has good dribbling skills and La Liga could be an ideal league for his development. Chelsea are in no hurry to bring him back at the club, as he would not get sufficient game time at the Bridge. Moving back to Chelsea don’t help the player and the Blues would not benefit as well.
The ideal situation here is to let him continue to develop in Spain, extend his loan move for one or two years, and then take a decision whether he is good enough to make an impact in the Chelsea senior team.
