Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Luis Suarez would make a mistake if he decides to end his time at Liverpool for Barcelona.
Earlier we reported the Catalan club have agreed a €90m fee with the Anfield outfit for the Uruguayan international’s signature as he is edging towards completing his switch to Camp Nou.
Scholes, the former England international has urged Suarez to reject a chance to join Barcelona as he feels the former Ajax man is right suited for their La Liga rivals, Real Madrid.
“If Luis Suarez does sign for Barcelona from Liverpool, will Lionel Messi ‘accept’ him? Suarez is a centre forward and he won’t want to play out wide,” Scholes wrote on his Paddy Power blog.
“I can’t see Suarez and Messi linking well together. It seems to me, if Messi likes you, you’ll play. If he doesn’t, you’re wasting your time.”
“And, to be honest, I think Suarez is making a bit of a mistake going to Barcelona – he’d be better suited to Real Madrid,” the Old Trafford favourite concluded.
For over half decade, Barcelona have been relying heavily four time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi to lead their attacking division. Over the years, there have been star players at Camp Nou and almost all of them have left the Spanish giants as they were either forced to play out of the position or saw their appearances being limited.
The list includes players like Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimović and World Cup winner David Villa.
Should Suarez join Barcelona, it should be seen whether he will be given the preference ahead of Messi or will the Argentine international will still hold his current role at the club.
