Barcelona defender Martin Montoya’s future at the Catalan club has been under intense speculations since the summer. The Spaniard was linked with a move to Liverpool while reigning Serie A champions Juventus are also keeping tabs on the player’s current situation. Spanish Media Outlet Mundo Deporotivo however have provided an update on Montoya saying he definitely wants to head towards the exit at Camp Nou in January.
Juventus though aren’t willing to pay €20m for the 23 year old. The Old Lady however could seek a purchase option in the summer of 2015 and would be willing to pay only €12m, which is what they believe to be Montoya’s market price.
Should the Bianconeri not pursue their interest in the defender, French side Marseille however will rekindle their interest. Marcelo Bielsa’s side already had expressed tehir desire to sign Montoya in the summer.
Liverpool’s bitter rivals Everton also are interested but the Toffees might not have the financial prowess to sign the right back. Montoya was always considered a long term replacement of Dani Alves, the Brazilian right-rack, at Barcelona, but manager Luis Enrique has always overlooked the player this season season.
Montoya has also fallen below the pecking order, now behind behind Douglas and is currently the third choice defender at the Catalan club. Montoya’s agent has confirmed that, “we want a transfer.”
