Arsenal are having a quiet transfer deadline day. To be honest we didn’t expect that. Arsene Wenger said in the press conference last week that the Gunners are open to add new players to the side and we really expected some transfer activity from them.
The Gunners were linked with two possible moves. Reports emerged from France that Arsenal were interested in PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot while several trustworthy media outlets reported Arsenal’s interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Last week we covered extensively on those two reports. There were claims that agent-mother of Rabiot paid a visit to London to hold talks with Arsenal and that the Gunners are trying to sign him for a fee in the region of €15m. Serie A giants Roma were also in the mix and had reportedly agreed a deal for Rabiot though it seems both the clubs haven’t yet reached a common ground, but Le Parisien claim that could open the door for Arsenal.
The player wants to leave PSG in the summer and Arsenal could have been an ideal destination for him but it seems like the rumour has cooled down a bit.
The Gunners were also heavily linked Greek international Sokratis and had reportedly lodged a €20m bid couple of days but The Times reckons, that interest is cooling out as well.
It seems like Arsenal is loosing out on €35m worth of targets and unless something dramatic happens, hard to see them signing either of them. Or may be they can.
