Arsenal are set to rival Serie A side Inter Milan for Benfica starlet Rodrigo Moreno in the summer. The Gunners are willing to splurge the cash for the Spaniard who is rated at £28m according to reports.

The 23 year old has a long history of being linked with Liverpool and Manchester United but is believed that Arsene Wenger has finally decided to meet Benfica’s evaluation of £28m to fend off interests from other clubs.

Inter Milan are also after the Spaniard who has enjoyed his most productive season in the top flight scoring 15 times in 24 appearances for the Lisbon side.

Rodrigo came up through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system but failed to break into the first team due to intense competition. The 23 year old has been with  Benfica since 2010 and also featured for Bolton Wanderers on loan during the 2010/11 premier League season.

Rodrigo has a fantastic left foot and the ability to leave defenders behind on his trail thanks to his raw pace. He has dazzling dribbling ability and with clever flick and turns can also support his team mates in the middle of the park. Wenger believes that the youngster who is owned by an investment firm, will provide an attacking edge to his side.

Arsenal’s lack of attacking options up front documents their need to sign a quality striker in order to challenge for top honours next season. The Gunners were leading the race for the Premier League title this season but a string of poor games has seen their challenge die down.

Rodrigo’s father and agent Adalberto Machado is aware of the growing interest in his client’s services. Machado also admitted to holding talks with Benfica regarding the Spaniard’s future at the end of the season.

“I expect to meet the club at the end of the season. We want the best for the player and for the club, but at the moment Rodrigo is only concentrating on Benfica and winning titles at the end of the season,” ‘ Machado told Tutto Mercato Web.
