Arsenal have completed the signing of center back Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
The Gunners had a £5m bid for the France international accepted earlier in the week, and the 30-year-old has now officially sealed his move to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger said of his newest signing, “We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price – he was all of that.”
“He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well. I believe he will be suited to the English game.”
Due to not taking part in either of the ties in Sevilla’s Champions League playoff round defeat to Portuguese side Braga, Squillaci will be able to take part in Arsenal’s Champions League campaign.
The former Monaco and Lyon man, however, won’t make his Arsenal debut until after the international break, as he won’t be eligible for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Blackburn.
Squillaci is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer, following former Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, who arrived on a free transfer, and center back Laurent Koscielny, who signed from Lorient in an £8.5m deal.
