Arsenal must not lose this opportunity in the January Transfer window to sign yet another Real Madrid superstar. You guessed it right – I’m talking about Iker Casillas.
One section of Arsenal fans believe that there is no need to buy another goal keeper as Wojciech Szczesny is more than handy enough to keep the gloves week-in-week-out. The dosh can be used elsewhere. But, there are another section of fans who believe that the Polish star is brilliant no doubt but the Gunners still need a world class goal keeper in their ranks.
The situation of Casillas could therefore tempt Arsenal to make a move for him in January. The 32-year-old, who came through the youth ranks of Real Madrid, is the captain of both Real Madrid and Spain, but sadly has been largely overlooked, first by Jose Mourinho and now Carlo Ancelotti. He served the club for 15 long years and has won 5 La Liga titles and 2 Champions League with Real Madrid.
The skipper has been warming the bench for sometime now while Diego Lopez has slowly established himself as the first choice goal keeper of the club. He became out-of-favour of Mourinho last season while his situation has hardly improved under new coach Ancelotti as well.
However, one must understand that Casillas is still a more than good enough player to warm the bench, and quite naturally he has voiced his frustrations. He said:
“In September I wanted to leave and I was going to tell the president that I wanted to go, but I decided to be a part of this squad and this club for a lot longer.”
Should Arsenal consider a move for him in January? Have your say below…
