Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is still hoping to convince Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas to join the Gunners in the summer.
Goal keeping position has been one of the major problems for Arsenal over the years. While first choice keeper Wojciech Szczesny can hardly be called a ‘world class’ keeper while following the departure of Fabianski and Viviano, the need for signing a top keeper has become a priority.
Arsenal had already expressed an interest in Casillas, the Real Madrid legend, before. Coach Carlo Ancelotti had decided to rotate his two goal keepers, with Casillas mainly used for the cup games, that led to speculation that the 33-year-old was pondering a move to the Premier League.
Spanish newspaper AS feels that his situation is different now, following Madrid’s haul of La Decima. Casillas doesn’t want to move and has a reported release clause of €180m, which Arsenal will never pay, keeping his age his mind.
