According to London Evening Standard, Arsenal are set to move for Monaco midfielder, Joao Moutinho.

Joao Moutinho has struggled to settle into France and has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal over the last couple of seasons. However it seems the player is determined to leave this summer and Arsenal could be the destination.

According to UK media, Wenger is keen to reinforce his midfield options and after the transfer of Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich, Wenger has turned his sights towards Moutinho.

The Portuguese midfielder was one of the best central midfielders around whilst at Porto and can still be a very good signing for Arsenal if the Gunners manage to agree a deal.

However, Monaco are reluctant to let go of him after the sale of Geoffrey Kondogbia earlier this summer.

In such a scenario, Arsenal might have to pay over the odds for a player that is clearly unhappy at the club and is bent on leaving. Moutinho would be a solid addition to Arsenal’s central midfield alongside the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere and Coquelin.

The Portuguese is likely to take up the role of Mikel Arteta as the controller and allow Ramsey to attack from the deep.

Whether Wenger forks out a few extra millions for him remains to be seen, but Moutinho will no doubt be an excellent addition for the title chasing Gunners.
