The transfer rumours regarding the future of Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus continuing to go around.
This morning the Metro are claiming that Liverpool are ‘closer’ to securing the German international for £32 million.
They are one of many tabloids who are claiming the 25-year old could move for that fee.
However, only last week did the Bild continue to quote a significantly lower fee for Marco Reus. The German newspaper, who have been correct on a number of transfers in the past, stated he could leave Signal Iduna Park for €25 million (£19.5m) this summer.
This is the fee that has been quoted around since the summer when it was revealed a clause in his contract to allow him to leave for that price activates at the end of the current season.
Where the British tabloids have got a significantly higher fee from remains to be seen.
Still, if the Dortmund attacking midfielder has refused to sign a new contract this is great news for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United who consider to pursuit one of the very best players in world football.
We also quoted former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeneß yesterday as advising runaway German Bundesliga leaders not to sign Marco Reus in order to keep their league somewhat competitive.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the league in record time last season and the UEFA Champions League the year before under Jupp Heynckes. They currently have a 14-point lead over Borussia Dortmund after only nine games with Jürgen Klopp’s side thought to be the only one’s capable of challenging for the title pre-season.
Dortmund have made an abysmal start to the 2014-15 campaign and now face a battle on their hands just to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They were beaten 1-0 at home to Hannover 96 last weekend leaving them on just seven points this season.
Stars like Marco Reus, Mats Hummels and İlkay Gündoğan can all be expected to leave should they finish outside the top four this season.
