Arguably the biggest deal of the summer so far is set to play out in Serie A in the coming hours, with Juventus’ Mirko Vucinic and Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin on the verge of an impressive swap deal, completely removing both Man Utd and Arsenal from the equation with one fell swoop.

Arsenal had shown a strong interest in procuring Vucinic, with Wenger looking to snap up further attacking talent this January. The Montenegrin’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, was due in London on Monday for talks with Gunners officials over a potential deal.

But Wenger’s preference for a short-term loan deal was rejected by Juve, with the entire deal now trumped by the Guarin swap proposal.

But both Premier League sides are set to be frustrated, with the two players set to complete a dramatic swap deal in the coming hours; a deal that has has been a metaphorical roller-coaster, and at one point looked like imploding.

It is turning out to be an absolutely fascinating saga, with the deal looking dead in the water only a few hours ago, with Inter Milan fans vociferously opposing the deal, and inundating the club’s official Twitter feed with their pleas to see the deal scrapped.

The news of an end to negotiations was widely reported, despite both players having cleared out their respective lockers and leaving for medicals.

Inter fan group ‘Curva Nord Milano’ released a statement concerning their views on the deal,

“What kind of club policy is it to weaken an already limited squad in order to strengthen a rival?” read the statement (via TuttoSport),

Guarin to Juve is not acceptable. A younger and technically gifted player for an older player? This leaves us all puzzled …”

According to an unconfirmed report, the Colombian Guarin was so incensed on hearing that the move may collapse that he refused to leave the meeting, in a attempt to reignite the deal.

The player seemed set to join Chelsea earlier in the month, but the deal fell through, and now Guarin seems very eager to join up with Serie A leaders Juve.

But now it seems Guarin will get his wish, as negotiations are proceeding once again, with Twitter now heaving with the latest speculation on the ever-changing deal.

Sportmediaset says the deal has been agreed in principle, with Inter also receiving €1.5-€2m million cash from Juve for the transfer to be settled.

La Gazetta Dello Sport had claimed that both players were undergoing medicals, and the latest unconfirmed reports state that Vucinic has passed his exam in Milan.

Dr. Franco Combi, team doctor at Inter, cryptically confirmed that the 30-year-old had indeed passed his medical last night, saying,
