The situation of Chelsea defender David Luiz is getting interesting day by day. Spanish giants Barcelona are heavily interested in signing the Brazilian, if the reports are to be believed, while Luiz himself may look for a move elsewhere, as he is not getting regular game time under Jose Mourinho.

The 26-year-old was the summer target of Barcelona, but the deal never materialized. However, there is a high possibility that the Catalan giants could make a move for him again in January.

Madrid based newspaper, AS reported last week that Barcelona will be paying attentions to see whether Chelsea are interested in selling Luiz or not in January. Defence is a major concern for Tata Martino – veteran defender Carles Puyol returned to squad after long injury lay-off but his comeback wasn’t strong as expected. Likewise, Javier Mascherano is going through a bad form while Gerard Pique has failed to provide enough stability at the back.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Luiz is allegedly fed up with the way the Portuguese manager has been treating him, especially his preference for Terry and Cahill as Chelsea’s central defensive duo, and has decided to change clubs in the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea demanded over €40m in the summer, but Barcelona were only willing to pay €30m. However, the situation has changed drastically as Luiz has only managed 5 matches since the start of the season, and although he is loved by the Blues supporters, he has allegedly fallen out of favour of Mourinho.

Mundo Deportivo, another Catalan based newspaper, also covered a report on that line. Sources close to the club have confirmed that Barcelona have been in contact with the player’s agent since the summer and the move could well materialize in January.

Having already played in the Champions League, Luiz will be cup-tied but the La Liga club would still be interested to count on his services as soon as possible and the player is open to the move given his disappointment with his current status at Chelsea. Apart from Luiz, Barcelona are also considering the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Jan Vertonghen and Daniel Agger with Tata Martino reportedly eager to bolster his defense.
