Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter, who is also a reported target of Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Earlier this month, reports emerged in Germany that Manchester United manager David Moyes made a personal scouting check on the player, with the Red Devils having watched him on several other occasions.
Manchester United will lose skipper Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan next season, while the future of Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford is also under huge doubt.
Ginter, 20, has been touted as one of the brightest prospects in the Bundesliga and has a contract till 2017.
According to reports from The Mirror, Arsenal have registered their interest in Ginter and are plotting to make a move in the summer.
The Gunners sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the young centre-back who made his full international debut against Chile.
Ginter fits the bill at Arsenal nicely, as Arsene Wenger is looking to replace skipper Thomas Vermaelen, who is likely to leave the club next season.
