USA 1-0 Algeria
2010 FIFA World Cup
23 June 2010
The USA would score in stoppage time to win Group C and move into the knockout stage.
It was almost a disastrous start for the Americans who allowed Algeria a great chance early which hit off the crossbar. Fortunately for the USA, it didn’t go in and they would start to take control of the match. They would start to get several chances and looked to take the lead until a goal was waived off due to offsides. Replays show it was an incorrect call and fans were wondering if another victory was going to taken away because of a bad decision.
Bob Bradley would make some changes at halftime as the match opened up. Both teams needed a win (England were leading Slovenia 1-0) and the Americans would have multiple chances. They failed to convert most of them as it seemed like it wasn’t going their way. Clint Dempsey would hit the post while Michael Bradley hit a free kick right at the goalkeeper. Eventually in stoppage time, the USA would score the lone goal of the match.
On a counterattack, the USA would get a chance as Jozy Altidore passed to Clint Dempsey who had his shot blocked by the goalkeeper. The ball then fall in the box to Landon Donovan who scored and make it 1-0. It was enough for the win and the United States will play the runner-up from Group D.
