Manchester United have been linked with a move for Renato Sanches over the last few months.
The talented Benfica star was tipped to join Manchester United during the January transfer window but the move never happened.
According to latest reports from the Portuguese media (via Sportwitness), Benfica are looking to offer new contracts to some of their players but Sanches is not one of them.
The report states that Manchester United have already reserved the player for the summer transfer window and Benfica will not enter into any contract negotiations with him or change his release clause. It is understood that Manchester United will pay upto 60 million Euros for the young midfielder.
Although the deal is far from done, the fact that the Portuguese media think that Manchester United have reserved the player means that the Premier League giants have some sort of agreement with him or the club. Perhaps a verbal agreement or an agreement in principle of some sort.
Recently Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola labelled Sanches as one of the best 18-year-olds in Europe right now and he would be an outstanding addition to Manchester United’s pool of young talents.
If the Old Trafford outfit manage to pull it off then they will be hoping that Sanches can have a similar impact to that of Anthony Martial.
The report from the Portuguese outlet also states that if Manchester United decide not to sign Sanches this summer, Jorge Mendes will offer the player to other European heavyweights. In other words, it seems that there is no way Sanches will stay at Benfica beyond this summer.
