According to reports from Portuguese Media Outlet A Bola, Manchester United had sent scouts yesterday to watch Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez at the Estadio da Luz. Benfica beat French side AS Monaco in the group stages of their Champions League encounter to keep alive their hopes of progressing through to the knockout stages.
The Red Devils have been interested in the 28 year old ever since the World Cup in Brazil but any sort of bids from the Premier League giants failed to materialize in the transfer window. We had reported a couple of days ago that Spanish side Valencia re in pole position to sign Perez and are preparing a €30m offer for the player in January.
Valencia were also close to sign Perez in the summer with a €25m offer deal somehow did not work out as expected. This time though the Mestalla outfit backed by the financial prowess of new owner Peter Lim are taking no chances and seem desperate to sign the Argentine.
The recent developments with United rekindling their interest in the player seems Perez will not face a dearth of potential suitors in the upcoming transfer market. We had also mentioned that Tottenham and Manchester City are also interested in the right sided midfielder. In reality though, neither City nor Spurs require his services.
Old Trafford would be an ideal destination and as the World Cup showed, Perez is more of a team player who can play anywhere in midfield, specially on the right. He would easily make a name for himself under Louis Van Gaal thanks to his immense work rate and dedication to break the opposition down with his ability.
