At this point in the season, the Tennessee Titans have a 2-4 record. That puts them at fourth in the AFC South through their first six games. The Titans’ last game was in Week 6 vs. the Ravens in London. Tennessee lost that game and starting QB Ryan Tannehill injured his ankle.

Luckily, the team had a bye in Week 7 and that gave Tannehill some time to rest and rehab so that he could play in Week 8. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the 35-year-old is still dealing with a high ankle sprain. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that the Titans plan to start rookie QB Will Levis if Tannehill is not available for Sunday.

Will Levis is on track to make his first NFL start this Sunday for the Titans

In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans used their second-round pick to take QB Will Levis. He spent two seasons with Penn State and two with Kentucky while in college. It was interesting to see the Titans take another QB in the draft after they selected Malik Willis in the third round in 2022. Regardless, Levis made an NFL roster and has been the third-string QB for most of the season.

That all must have changed during the bye week for Tennesee. Ryan Tannehill injured his ankle during the Titans’ Week 6 contest vs. the Ravens. When he went down, Malik Willis came in at QB and did not look comfortable. Willis was sacked four times in his short playing tie during Week 6. He clearly did not do enough to make Tennessee feel comfortable with their QB situation. That’s why the team is planning to start rookie Will Levis this weekend vs. the Falcons.

It will not be an easy game for Will Levis in his first NFL start. He’ll be facing a tough Atlanta Falcons team that has an elite defense. They are letting up the third-fewest yards and ninth-fewest points per game of any team defensively in 2023. Hopefully, the bye was reset by the Titans because they’ve lost three of their last four games. As of now, Will Levis is starting for the Titans, but he could have a short leash if he starts to crumble.
