Andriy Shevchenko is back in the business of scoring goals – and like Rooney, it is perfect timing for the Ukrainian hitman to start firing.
Chelsea need all the help they can get if they want to catch Manchester United, and with a tough CL quarter-final against Valencia coming up in two weeks time (although considering that Valencia lost at home 2-0 to Racing Santander, maybe its not so tough), Mourinho will welcome Sheva’s goal.
Who says Chelsea is boring? Carvalho’s surging run through the middle of the park left several Sheffield United players clueless and backtracking. His pass found Sheva’s feet, who cushioned it perfectly, let it bounce once and shot an unstoppable rocket into the top corner.
Where were the defenders? Chelsea caught Sheffield United off-guard, and to be fair to them Chelsea’s third goal was taken from a free kick that was wrongly given (well done Robben). However, Sheff Utd deserve to go down on that display – they should have played much, much better, and after the second goal they did perk up but it wasn’t enough.
I don’t know what the slight tiff between Morgan and Robben was towards the end – Robben was all over Morgan and shoving his finger in Morgan’s face, and Morgan refused to react.
Robben’s reaction (and Morgan’s lack of response) makes me wonder what words were exchanged. My best guess is that Morgan was asking Robben why he wasn’t diving again, and Robben didn’t take that well.
In any case, Robben could easily have been yellow-carded but he wasn’t. He shouldn’t have been carded for simulation in the build up to Chelsea’s third goal, but really, something has to be done to help referees officiate matches better.
