Man Utd are reportedly looking to put in a €16m January bid for Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia.

According to European sources (via the Daily Star), Utd are interested in bringing in the Moroccan, having been impressed with his progress at Roma this season.

The 26-year-old made the move to the Stadio Olimpico in summer from Udinese, with Utd reportedly in the running for his signature even then.

With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both over thirty, David Moyes is looking to snap up a solid centre-back for the future.

As the defender only joined high-flying Roma in the summer, a January move is very unlikely. Moyes may have more luck in the summer; but should Roma qualify for the Champions League next season, it may be very difficult to prise Benatia away.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have met with Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne’s agent, as the Belgian’s transfer saga takes another turn.

German Newspaper ‘Kicker’ report that Patrick de Koster, De Bruyne’s agent, met with Leverkusen officials on Monday in order to arrange a deal for the 22-year-old.

De Bruyne’s plight at Stamford Bridge this season has been well documented, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho supposedly unimpressed with the abilities of the Belgian.

This has prompted a transfer rush for his services, with a whole host of German clubs vying to snap him up this January.

Leverkusen seem to have jumped to the front of the queue for attacker, and the Belgian will surely be making his Chelsea exit in January after De Koster met with Mourinho on Thursday to discuss his client’s options.

The winger played the full 120 minutes of Chelsea’s 2-1 League Cup defeat to Sunderland in the week, and did little to impress his manager. With an abundance of competition at Chelsea, the best course of action for the marginalised De Bruyne must surely be to move away from the Bridge?
