David Moyes has broken his silence after being sacked as Manchester United manager in April.
The former Everton boss was shown the exit door just 10 months into his six-year contract at Old Trafford. The Red Devils endured a poor run of results in all competitions as they finished seventh in the table and are out of next season’s Champions League.
The 51-year-old believes United did not give him enough time to succeed at Old Trafford and he says the Red Devils are done with having a long-term plan at the club.
“I never had the chance to thank the Manchester United supporters for the backing they gave me during my time as manager. I wish them every success in the future,” Moyes wrote in the Sunday Times.
“They now appreciate, I am sure, that things are changing at their club and it could well be that gone are the days of long-term planning. They were fully aware of the task I had. It was unfortunate I wasn’t given more time to succeed.”
Moyes revealed that he had held conversation with United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the Scot gave his compatriot few advices to do some changes in order to set things right for the Red Devils.
“I have spoken to Sir Alex Ferguson on several occasions and we met recently at a dinner in London. I believe I had nothing but support from him,” the Glaswegian said
“He advised me of some changes that had to be made. I took his advice and started to implement the necessary changes. I became aware of other changes that had to be made and put plans in place,” Moyes concluded.
Meanwhile, United have appointed Louis van Gaal as their new manager for the next season and the Dutchman will take in charge of the role after completing the World Cup campaign with Holland.
