Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is expected to join Liverpool within next 24 hours.
Once Liverpool had decided to spend a chunk of money received from the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City on Christian Benteke, the Reds didn’t wait long to trigger his £32.5m release clause.
The Belgian striker was due to take a second part of his medical on Tuesday, and Birmingham Mail reports that he will complete his move to Liverpool within next 24 hours.
Benteke, arguably Aston Villa’s best player over the past three years, was in Portugal with the squad for last week’s training camp, but he was not included in the warm up matches against Fulham and Sporting Braga.
If the internet is to be judged, Liverpool fans are particularly not happy with this signing. Having experienced how Andy Carroll, a physically built striker like Benteke, flopped at the Anfield club, there lies a strong trepidation among the fans over this move.
Having said that, Benteke is an incredible talent who is good enough to play for Liverpool or for that matter any other Premier League clubs. We’ll bring you the news when the clubs confirm it officially, but for now: welcome to Liverpool, Christian.
