Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne remains confident that he can prove his worth to show Jose Mourinho that he deserves a place in the Blues’ starting line up.
The Belgium international had a poor run during the West London club’s 2-0 Capital One Cup win over Swindon, which had seen the 22 year old being left out of the squad for Chelsea’s Champions League trip to face Steaua Bucharest and for the next Premier League tie against Norwich City.
The former Real Madrid manager is believed to be disappointed with De Bruyne’s performance against Swindon and in training sessions, which eventually led the winger being dropped from the squad.
De Bruyne was signed from Genk in January 2012 and spent the last season on loan with Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen. The Belgium winger’s impressive spell in Germany, which saw him bag score 10 goals and register nine assists saw him receive widespread praise.
The winger returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer and is now facing an uphill battle to make his way into Chelsea’s starting XI. However, De Bruyne remains confident that he would impress Mourinho in training to regain a place in the Portuguese tactician’s plan at the English capital.
“I will work hard and hope that I get my chance. I have to show the coach my level. I was disappointed just like the other players who didn’t travel, but I wasn’t the only player who wasn’t there,” De Bruyne told the Daily Star.
“He knows what I can do. I played a good 90 minutes and showed everyone that I am fit. I can only do my best.”
Meanwhile, De Bruyne has played down recent speculation which claimed the Belgian has fallen out of favour with Chelsea manager. This had seen him being linked with a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in January, which has been rubbished by the player.
“Mourinho is the boss, he chooses who plays. We do not talk about it really. He tells me when I do something bad, but frankly I haven’t heard such negative comments.” he said.
“I chose to stay (instead of going on loan) and I have no regrets. I continue to fight hard. My chance will come. I’m really not concerned about finding a solution in January. That we will have to see.”
