According to a Brazilian news source, Benfica are set to make an offer for Chelsea right back, Wallace.
Wallace joined the Blues in 2013 from Fluminense, but has spent the last few years on loan at Inter Milan and Vitesse. It is understood that the Brazilian is on the expendable list at Chelsea and will be allowed to leave, should an acceptable offer come in.
Benfica are keen to bolster their full back position, with defender Maxi Perreira set to leave. The Portuguese giants have identified Chelsea’ young Brazilian as an ideal solution to their right back problems.
Further, it is believed that Chelsea are keen on signing Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan. In such a scenario, it is quite possible that Wallace might be used as a potential sweetener by the London giants.
Gaitan has had a superb season with Benfica and has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Manchester United as well. The Argentine winger would be an ideal addition to Mourinho’s side and would fit right in.
Chelsea have lacked width and flair on the right hand side for the last two seasons. The likes of De Bruyne and Schurrle have failed to deliver and new signing Cuadrado has yet to settle in properly.
Mourinho is thought to be keen on adding a right winger to the squad and Gaitan’s efficiency from the right makes him an ideal candidate.
Furthermore, Gaitain’ exceptional crossing would also benefit Diego Costa who thrived on them whilst at Atletico Madrid.
Long story short, a player plus cash deal between Chelsea and Benfica is definitely on the cards if both sides push forward with their interests in Wallace and Gaitan.
