Aston Villa are currently without a manager after they sacked Dean Smith from his position last week.

Smith was dismissed last Sunday after the Lions’ 1-0 defeat against Southampton.

That was their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat under the English boss, which left them just two points above the relegation zone.

The Birmingham based side lost Jack Grealish to Manchester City in the summer but they also managed to bring in Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings.

They made a good start to the 2021-22 season, claiming victories over Everton and Manchester United.

But following their win at Old Trafford, their form dropped off dramatically as the Lions lost all their subsequent five matches in the top-flight.

Smith was relieved of his duties at Villa Park after the reverse at St. Mary’s.

Aston Villa are now in search of a new manager and as per 90MIN, Steven Gerrard is their first choice to fill the vacant post.

The club’s CEO Christian Purslow knows the 41-year-old from his time at Liverpool where he served as the managing director between 2009 and 2010.

Gerrard is currently the manager of the Scottish side Rangers who won their first league title in 10 years last season under the English football expert.

It is said that Villa have also considered the likes of Roberto Martinez, Graham Potter, Ralf Rangnick, Kasper Hjulmand and Paulo Fonseca for the important job.
