Aston Villa are set to hold talks with John Terry about becoming their new manager after they sacked Dean Smith last week, according to reports.
The former Chelsea star worked under Smith as an assistant head coach until July 2021 when he departed Villa Park.
However, as per Football Insider, the 40-year-old could return to the Lions as they are set to hold discussions with him over the coming days.
Terry is said to have strong links with the club’s chief executive Christian Purslow who has been associated with Villa since August 2018.
The Birmingham based club have also been linked with other candidates, including Steven Gerrard and Roberto Martinez.
Martinez is currently serving as the manager of Belgium, having joined them in August 2016.
The Spanish football expert led Swansea City to promotion from League One as champions before he joined Wigan Athletic in 2009.
He helped the Latics to avoid relegation for three consecutive seasons, and also secured them the FA Cup in 2013.
Belgium reached the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup under the 48-year-old while they also rose to first in the FIFA World Rankings in 2018.
Meanwhile, Gerrard has been the manager of Rangers since 2018, replacing Graeme Murty as the new boss.
The former Liverpool star led the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 without losing a single league match. Thus he guided them to their first league title in 10 years.
